ब्रिटेन में स्कूल बंद रखने के कारण कोविड-19 से हुईं अधिक मृत्यु, अध्ययन में

कोरोना वायरस महामारी के दौरान स्कूलों को खुला रखने के बजाय बंद रखने के कारण लंबे समय में अधिक मौतें हो सकती हैं। बृहस्पतिवार को जारी एक नये विश्लेषण में यह दावा किया गया है। एडिनबर्ग विश्वविद्यालय के शोधकर्ताओं द्वारा किये गये अध्ययन में यह खुलासा भी हुआ है कि सामाजिक मेलजोल से दूरी महामारी से होने वाली मौतों की संख्या घटाने का एक कारगर औजार रही।
एडिनबर्ग विश्वविद्यालय के स्कूल ऑफ फिजिक्स एंड एस्ट्रोनॉमी के प्राध्यापक एवं अध्ययन दल के मुख्य लेखक ग्रीम आकलैंड ने कहा, ”संक्षिप्त अवधि में स्कूलों को बंद रखने से संक्रमण से होने वाली मौतों की संख्या कम रही, लेकिन इस फैसले ने हमें संक्रमण के बाद के चरण के लिये कहीं अधिक खतरे में डाल दिया। उन्होंने कहा, ”कोविड-19 महामारी के प्रभाव को कम करने के लिये विभिन्न आयु वर्ग की आबादी के लिए अलग-अलग रणनीतियों की जरूरत थी , जिसमें अधिक ध्यान बुजुर्गों और जोखिम ग्रस्त लोगों का बचाव करने पर दिया जाना था।
अध्ययन के नतीजे ‘रिपोर्ट 9 के विश्लेषण पर आधारित हैं। इंपीरियल कॉलेज ऑफ लंदन के इस अध्ययन का इस्तेमाल ब्रिटिश सरकार की आपात स्थिति पर वैज्ञानिक सलाहकार समूह ने 23 मार्च को राष्ट्रव्यापी लॉकडाउन लागू करने में किया था। इसके तहत स्कूलों को भी बंद कर दिया गया था।
नया विश्लेषण ‘ब्रिटिश मेडिकल जर्नल में प्रकाशित हुआ है। विशेषज्ञों ने कहा है कि स्कूलों और दुकानों को बंद रखने जैसे उपायों का यदि फिर से सहारा लिया जाता है तो महामारी और भी लंबे समय तक जा सकती है और प्रभावी टीकाकरण कार्यक्रम क्रियान्वित नहीं होने पर दीर्घकाल में कहीं अधिक मौतें होंगी।
