गुजरे जमाने के महान कलाकार गुरुदत्त एक ऐसी शख्सियत थे जिनकी फिल्में बॉलीवुड के इतिहास में उभरते कलाकारों के लिए प्रेणा स्रोत का काम करती आई है। यही नहीं बल्कि उनकी यादगार फ़िल्म कागज के फूल को आज भी फ़िल्म महोत्सव व एक्टिंग कॉलेज में प्रशिक्षण के लिए दिखाई जाती है। फ़िल्म प्यासा की बारीकियों व उनके उत्कृष्ट अंदाज को आज भी याद किया जाता है। गुरुदत्त साहब की फिल्में जितनी दिलचस्प होती थी उनकी रियल लाईफ भी कम दिलचस्प नही थी। वहीदा रहमान से उनकी दोस्ती प्रोफ़ेशनल फ्रंट से शरू होकर एक क्लासिक लव अफेयर बन गयी । दोनों के बीच जबरदस्त स्ट्रांग रिलेशन थी। इस रिलेशन का गुरुदत्त साहब के वैवाहिक जीवन पर इतना बुरा असर पड़ा कि उनकी पर्सनल लाईफ ही ख़त्म हो गयी।
जी हाँ… आज आपको मैं ये बताऊंगा की कैसे दोनों पहली बार मिले थे। दोनों की मुलाकात एक एक्सिडेंट की वजह से हुई थी। इस एक्सीडेंट ने गुरुदत्त साहब व वहीदा रहमान दोनों की जिंदगी का रुख बदल कर रख दिया। ये बात है 1956 के उस दौर की जब गुरुदत्त का फिल्मों में बढ़ा नाम था। उन दिनों राजकपूर ,देवानन्द भी उभरते सितारों के रूप में अपने को स्थापित करने में लगे थे।
उस जमाने मे गुरुदत्त साहब के प्रशसकों व उनके चाहने वालो की लम्बी लाईन लगा करती थी। उनमें से एक उनका चाहने वाला फ़िल्म डिस्टिब्यूटर था जो उन्ही की फिल्मों को हैदराबाद में डिस्ट्रीब्यूट किया करता था। इस डिस्ट्रीब्यूटर को एक फ़िल्म बेहद पसंद आई जिसका नाम था मिसि अम्मा ! ये फ़िल्म हैदराबाद में सुपर डुपर हिट चल रही थी इसे देखने के लिए लोग पागल हुए जा रहे थे। उस जमाने मे तकनीकी व्यवस्था इतनी बढ़िया नही थी जितनी आज है । ना ही दूसरे शहर से फ़िल्म लाने की व्यवस्था थी इसलिए डिस्ट्रीब्यूटर चाहता था कि गुरुदत्त हैदराबाद में आकर इसे देखें और इस फ़िल्म को हिंदी में बनाये। लेकिन गुरुदत्त हैदराबाद आना ही नही चाहते थे। क्योकि उस वक्त हैदराबाद में आना जाना बड़ा दुर्लभ था।
लेकिन फ़िल्म डिस्ट्रीब्यूटर दोस्त के बार बार आग्रह करने पर आखिरकार गुरुदत्त साहब हैदराबाद जाने के लिए मान गए लेकिन गुरुदत्त ने ये बात साफ कर दी थी कि यदि हेदराबाद में फ़िल्म उन्हें पसंद नही आई तो वो किसी की भी नही सुनेंगे और तुरन्त वापिस बम्बई आ जाएंगे। फिर क्या था गुरुदत्त साहब ने अपनी फिल्मी टीम को हैदराबाद ले जाने के लिए एक कार ट्रिप अरेंज की जिसमे उनके साथ उनके सहायक अबरार अल्वी व उनके प्रोडक्शन कंट्रोलर गुरु स्वामी भी मौजूद थे।तीनों हैदराबाद के लिए निकल पड़े। उबड़ खाबड़ सड़के व लम्बा रास्ता तय करते हुए किसी तरह गुरु दत्त साहब सुबह हैदराबाद पहुंचे। उस वक्त सड़के भी बढ़िया नही हुआ करती थी इतनी लंबी यात्रा तय करके हैदराबाद पहुँचना एक दीवानापन ही हो सकता था। जब वे सुबह थक हार कर हैदराबाद पहुँचे ही थे कि अचानक नींद की खुमारी में ड्राइवर को सामने बैठी भैंस दिखाई नही पड़ी और अचानक उनकी कार भैंस से जा टकराई। कार इतनी बिगड़ गयी थी कि उसे तीन दिन के लिए गैराज में मरम्मत के लिए भेजना पड़ा।
खैर किसी तरह डिस्टिब्यूटर के बुलाने पर उस सुपर हिट फ़िल्म को दिखाया गया। परन्तु गुरुदत्त साहब को मिसि अम्मा फ़िल्म पसन्द नही आई। एक तरफ तो कार खराब हो गयी और दूसरी तरफ फ़िल्म अच्छी नही लगी ऐसी में ये सोचकर गुरुदत्त साहब का मूंड खराब हो गया। बार बार ये सोच कर उन्हें गुस्सा आ रहा था कि एक तो इतनी दूर नाइट जर्नी करके यहां आये है उसपर गाड़ी खराब हो गयी। कुछ फायदा भी नही हुआ और तीन दिन यहाँ रहकर समय गवांना पडेगा। इस बात पर गुरुदत्त ने डिस्ट्रीब्यूटर को खूब खरीखोटी सुनाई बाद में डिस्ट्रीब्यूटर के समझाने बुझाने पर वे उसके आफिस में आ गए। आफिस में कुछ देर बैठें ही थे अचानक एक चमत्कार हुआ !वहाँ लोगो का शोर मचने लगा। शोर सुनकर गुरुदत्त बाहर आकर देखने लगे तभी उनकी नजर भीड़ की और आते हुए एक गाड़ी पर पड़ी जिसमे एक सुंदर लड़की निकल कर बाहर आई। ये नजारा देख कर गुरुदत्त साहब डिस्टिब्यूटर से बोले कि भाई ये माजरा क्या है।
तब डिस्टिब्यूटर ने बताया कि रोजलु मरई नाम से एक फ़िल्म सुपर डुपर हिट हुई है जिसमे इस लड़की ने उस फिल्म में एक आइटम सांग्स किया है। तब से उसकी लोकप्रियता काफी बढ़ गयी है। ये देख कर गुरुदत्त ने तुरंत उस लडक़ी के साथ एक मीटिंग फिक्स कराने की इच्छा जाहिर की। …ये ही वो लड़की थी अपनी वहीदा रहमान जिसे देखकर पहली बार गुरुदत्त के मुहँ से निकला था कि ये ही मेरी फिल्म की हिरोइन होगी। डिस्ट्रीब्यूटर के कहने पर वहीदा रहमान अपनी माँ के साथ गुरुदत्त से मिली जिसपर गुरुदत्त ने वहीदा से पहला जवाब पूछा कि क्या वे उर्दू जानती है और दूसरा जवाब था कि उन्हें नृत्य की प्रेरणा कहां से मिली। इन दोनों सवालों के जवाब वहीदा रहमान ने हां और ना में दिये। जिसपर गुरुदत्त इतने में ही सन्तुष्ट हो गए और उन्होंने अपनी अगली फिल्म में लेने के लिये वहीदा को राजी कर लिया।
ये इत्तेफाक ही था कि हैदराबाद में दोनों की पहली मुलाकात हुई और इस मुलाकात ने दोनों की जिंदगी का रुख ही बदल दिया। गुरुदत्त साहब की फ़िल्म सीआईडी में छोटे से किरदार में वहीदा ने इतनी जान डाल दी थी कि फ़िल्म की लीड एक्ट्रेस शकीला को लोग भूल गए अगर कुछ याद रहा तो वहीदा का वो मशहूर गीत कहि पे निगाहें कहि निशाना ..। ये गीत वाहिदा के कैरियर में मिल का पत्थर साबित हुआ। उसके बाद गुरुदत्त की कई फिल्मों में वहीदा रहमान लीड एक्ट्रेस में नजर आईं। इतिहास के पन्नों में गुरुदत्त व वाहिद की कहानी हमेशा के लिए अमर हो गयी।
